ABOUT THE ARTIST

Fabian grew up on the south side of Chicago in a neighborhood once a playground to gangster Al Calpone and a diverse ethnic hotbed of people, tastes and unusual living. Though a Chicago born tough gal, Fabian now lives in Texas, where things are bigger and better. She has traveled all over the world and in 2000, she found herself living in Pakistan where she soaked up the culture and art of Mogul miniature painting, as well as the Pakistani Pop art seen there in the flashy and kitschly painted freight trucks, incorporating the appropriation of western logos as status symbols. She taught the artists there to sing the song "Tutti Fruitti" by Little Richard to give them a taste of things truly American. Culture, pop, music, cyberspace, and low art all have an influential kick for her. Often working with images inspired by surrealist visions and dancing motifs, Fabian's art has also been influenced by her training with the painters of the Hairy Who in Chicago at the School of the Art Institute.
